Apple Crisp

Our dad isn't a cake guy. Or a pie guy. Or a dessert guy, really. This apple crisp recipe is his one requested dessert. And I totally get why- it's warm, crunchy, fruity, sweet with just the right hint of tart, and just good. I mean, who doesn't like an oatmeal-based crunchy topping on a fruity filling with just the right hint of cinnamon? What's that? No one? That's what I thought.

So go make this. Top it with vanilla ice cream (Tillamook, of course), or whipped cream. It's a perfect dessert for any night. Or day. Or breakfast. It's oatmeal & a fruit- it totally counts.

Apple Crisp
What's Cooking Sister?
6-8 Servings

4-5 medium apples, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 Tablespoon sugar
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup oats
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup soft butter

Place apples, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and sugar into greased 9x13 baking dish, stir to coat and let sit.
Combine brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in softened butter until a soft crumble is formed. Spread over apples. Bake at 375* for 30-35 minutes, until topping is crisp and apples are soft. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
